Diagnostic Assessment for ADHD
The DIVA-5 (Diagnostic Interview for ADHD in Adults, 5th Edition) is a structured, evidence-based clinical interview widely considered a gold-standard tool for assessing ADHD in adults.
This assessment is conducted by Maggie Welling, LCSW-C, with extensive experience working with adults with ADHD, whose symptoms are often overlooked, masked, or misattributed. Maggie is qualified to conduct comprehensive clinical interviews, assess DSM-5-TR diagnostic criteria, evaluate developmental history and functional impairment, and rule out overlapping conditions.
Her approach is trauma-informed and neurodiversity-affirming, emphasizing accuracy, context, and each client’s lived experience.
ADHD Evaluation Process
The evaluation uses the Diagnostic Interview for ADHD (DIVA-5), a semi-structured clinical interview designed to assess ADHD symptoms across the lifespan.
Please plan to reserve approximately 3.5 hours for the full assessment. In some cases, additional time may be required. We can break the assessment up in two appointments if needed (same price)
The evaluation includes:
An initial clinical interview
Discussion of your reasons for seeking an evaluation
Review of relevant personal, developmental, and medical history
Completion of the DIVA-5 assessment, which explores symptoms and behaviors in both childhood and adulthood
The DIVA-5 focuses on:
Symptoms that appeared before age 12
A consistent pattern of symptoms continuing into adulthood
The impact of symptoms causing meaningful difficulties in at least two areas of life (such as home, school, work, or social settings)
Following the assessment, the clinician will review all gathered information and provide written findings within 5–7 business days. As part of this process, we will also provide resources and individualized recommendations to support next steps, regardless of diagnostic outcome.
Please note that completing an ADHD evaluation does not guarantee a diagnosis. Any diagnosis is based on a comprehensive review of all assessment components and clinical judgment.
