Walk and Talk Therapy is a form of psychotherapy that takes place outdoors while walking, typically in a public setting such as a park or trail. This approach integrates the emotional and psychological benefits of therapy with the physical and mental health benefits of walking in nature or open spaces.

Why Walking?

In addition to the benefits of movement and fresh air, walking may support a process known as bilateral stimulation—the alternating left-right movement of the body. This kind of movement can engage both hemispheres of the brain, which research suggests may help in processing emotions, reducing distress, and integrating memories.

Additional benefits:

  • Stress reduction through movement and exposure to nature

  • Greater ease discussing difficult topics in a less formal setting

  • Enhanced clarity and focus during sessions

  • Possible support for emotional processing through bilateral movement

 FAQs

  • Because sessions take place in public, complete confidentiality cannot be guaranteed. While we will choose quieter locations and we will take precautions, there is always a chance we may be overheard or seen by others.

  • If we encounter someone either of us know, we will have a plan in place for how to handle the interaction in a way that supports your comfort.

  • If the weather is unsuitable or you prefer not to walk on a particular day, we can conduct the session indoors or via telehealth, depending on availability.

  • Walk and Talk Therapy is not suitable for managing acute mental health crises. If an emergency arises, Welling Wellness will follow established crisis protocols.
